Research Grant

Under the “Rules for Research Grants” of Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), IT and Pt Inovação (PTIn) open the competition for a “Research Grant” in the framework of the industrial cooperation project inTact - Exploiting Multi-touch and Gestural Interfaces in Real Environments with Virtual Augmentation.
The objective is designing, developing, and implementing an interactive multitouch tabletop already under development and construction, as well as its software to support the development of interactive multitouch applications.

At the time of applying to this grant, the applicants must have a BSc degree in computer science or similar qualifications.
-Monthly value of the grant: 745€;
- The grant contract will start on February 7 (2011) with a duration of 3 months, and it is not renewable;
- Working place: Instituto de Telecomunicações, located at the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal (;
- Preferred conditions: immediate availability to start working and relevant skills in image processing or human-computer interaction, in particular multitouch technologies;
- Board of Examiners: Dr. Abel João Padrão Gomes (who presides), Dr. Frutuoso Gomes Mendes da Silva, and Dr. Joel José Puga Coelho Rodrigues.

The Institute for Telecommunications (IT-UBI), Covilhã Delegation, is an external research unit of the IT (Institute for Telecommunications, Pole of Coimbra). It is hosted by Faculty of Engineering, University of Beira Interior, and consists of 17 faculty members and  20 researchers working in six major topics: Computer Graphics and Multimedia, Mobile Technologies and TelecommunicationsNetwork and Multimedia ComputingSoft Computing and Image Analysis, Next Generation Networks and Applications, and Applied Mathematics.

Our research unit provides the following facilities: a high-performance network, network servers, computer clusters running grid and cloud technologies, several high-end graphics workstations and PCs, laptops, network laser printers, wireless access to university network, and free access to online journals worldwide.

Our research efforts are supported through the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, the Portuguese Government's leading funding agency for research, European Framework Programmes for research, and Institute for Telecommunications (IT) itself.
